The British Embassy in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan advises that it is aware that there is a version of the so-called West African Money Scam (which informs people that they have won a substantial amount of money) which requests payment of a 'handling fee' through a British Company and indicates that the British Embassy in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan is able to assist with the transfer of these funds.

We can confirm that the Embassy has never offered assistance in transfering money for individuals and urge people who receive these letters or e-mails to check the Metropolitan Police website for information on what to do.
