On 23 July, 2009 Presidential election were held in Kyrgyzstan. The UK supported both the domestic and international monitoring effort. The British Embassy also provided funding for a project that focused on training domestic observers throughout the country.

The OSCE through the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly provided 277 monitors.  

Within the ODIHR team the UK sent two long term observers and thirteen short term observers. British Embassy staff also monitored independently.
