On 22 September the Second International Sulphur Conference: Legal Framework and Industrial Applications will take place in Astana (18/09/2009)
On 22 September the Second International Sulphur Conference: Legal Framework and Industrial Applications will take place at the Press Centre of the Independence Palace in Astana.
Sponsored by Royal Dutch Shell, Tengizchevroil and the Embassies of Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States of America, this year's event follows the successful First International Sulphur Conference held in Astana in July 2008. The International Sulphur Conference 2009 will focus on finding solutions and gaining concrete results in the area of sulphur management. Specifically, the objectives of the 2009 Sulphur Conference will include:
- exchanges on the legislative and regulatory framework for sulphur management within the context of existing international legislation
- the sharing of international best-practices on sulphur management, especially the re-utilisation of sulphur in a variety of industrial practices.
The British Government has already worked closely with Kazakhstan in support of such activities such as sharing of knowledge and experience in trading and utilising sulphur.
The UK financed the participation of a representative from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources at the Annual International Sulphur Conference in Rome in November 2008 and in March 2009 sponsored training for Kazakhstani officials from both Ministries and research institutes with the British Sulphur Consultancy Group and Shell.
