The British Embassy's mission is to ensure Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan develop into secure, prosperous and just societies which contribute to the wider British interests and to maximise the British role in this process.

To support its mission the Embassy has a number of programmes in both countries, which are aimed primarily at:

• strengthening good governance, and democratic institutions; free speech, and civil society;
• energy sector reform with emphasis on environmental considerations (such as climate change).
