Projects and Funding
The FCO’s mission statement is Better World, Better Britain.
The Embassy has identified project priority areas, which are aimed primarily at:
- Human Rights, Democratisation and Good Governance - to promote advocacy and respect for human rights, the rule of law and democratic norms on the one hand, and stability, economic prosperity and progress on the other;
- Energy Security - to promote more effective government policy in the energy sector and more efficient use and regulation of energy resources while respecting environmental considerations and tackling climate change.
As funding is limited, we are always ready to consider co-funding projects with other donors in the areas outlined above.
The project proposal bids are available online at the Embassy’s web-site. Please, make sure that you follow instructions for applying for funding and filling out project proposal bids How to apply.
We strongly recommend that you contact one of our team at an early stage. They will provide advice on your project idea and bid to maximise the chances of receiving funding if it is viable and supports our objectives.

GOF becomes The Strategic Programme Fund
To underline the link between the FCO's policy goals and programme funds, the Global Opportunities Fund (GOF) has been renamed the Strategic Programme Fund (SPF). This change represents the FCO's focus on its main policy goals: counter terrorism, weapons proliferation and their causes; promote a low carbon, high growth, global economy; prevent and resolve conflict; and develop effective international institutions, above all the UN and EU. The SPF will be a key tool in pursuing an active foreign policy in these areas and in engaging with our partners across the world.
